In commemoration of Juneteenth, Employee Resource Groups for Black publishing industry professionals at Hachette, Macmillan, Pearson, and Wiley are hosting the following events and sessions. Unless otherwise noted, employees and allies of all of the companies are invited to participate.

BLACC Voices featuring Erin Walker: Lessons of Freedom from African Culinary Traditions
Many of the answers to modern day obstacles to health and wellness have been passed down from traditional African foods, herbs, and practices. As a part of our Juneteenth celebration, certified Health and Wellness Coach, Erin Walker, will share nutrition and wellness tips rooted in African cultural traditions that we can easily incorporate into our daily lives for optimal health. All are welcome to attend this enlightening and life-affirming session. Click here to register. BLACC Book Club: The 1619 Project
The perfect follow-up to the Q2 BLACC Voices session, ‘How We Got Here’, the second quarter book club meet-up will feature the Pulitzer Prize-winning, The 1619 Project. While much of the history and perspective represented in The 1619 Project is missing from traditional annals of American history, anti-racism work requires that neither be ignored. This Book Club meet-up is an opportunity for this much-needed exploration. All are invited to attend. Click here to register.

Rochester Juneteenth 5K Walk/Run
Juneteenth commemorates the end of slavery in the United States on June 19th, 1865. Rochester is the home of Civil Rights leader Frederick Douglas. The Macmillan Publishing Black African American Group (BAAG) and MacRunners Employee Resource Groups along with the Macmillan Publisher’s HR & Well-Being Committee are organizing a team for the Rochester Juneteenth 5K Run/Walk. Registrants can run or walk a 5K anytime from now until June 19 at midnight, and are welcome to join the Macmillan team's virtual group race on Saturday, June 19th at 8am. Celebrating News of Freedom: Juneteenth Happy Hour
This special Juneteenth-themed Happy Hour for Black employees of Hachette, Macmillan, Pearson, and Wiley will feature share outs of things we’re freeing ourselves from, a mixologist, icebreakers and After Party for those who can hang out a little longer.

BLACC Voices: How We Got Here - Reflecting on the Origins of White Supremacy in the U.S.
In recognition of Juneteenth, the second quarter BLACC Voices session, ‘How We Got Here: Reflecting on the Origins and Progression of White Supremacy in the U.S.’ will be led by long-time publishing industry veteran, Patrice Jones. The session will define and explore the origins of American racism; examine its progression and impact on modern systems; identify anti-racism work to which we can all contribute. Juneteenth Jam Session with DJ S1
